Writing Crumbs #5
Another half-baked book idea, without an excerpt this time, since I sadly don’t even have that. I’m toying with the idea of trying to write this during NaNoWriMo, we’ll see) I call this “Project: Remembrance.”
(This art is by theDURRRRIAN on DeviantArt, check it out: www.deviantart.com/thedurrrrian/ )
A cyberpunk world with fantasy elements struck by a mysterious curse that deletes any and all memories of the day as soon as someone falls asleep, so people are basically stuck reliving the same day over and over. Most people arent even aware of this, some are but can’t do shit about it, and a few managed to circumnavigate the problem with futuristic science, forming four distinct organizations (referred collectively as “Wakeners”).
The Mnemos is a cybernetics focused group that implement artificial extensions to their nervous system and connect to a core database, storing all their memories and downloading them at the start of each day. They are basically cyberninjas with augmented eyes, reflexes, hacking skills and such.
The Atlas is a paramilitary corporation (or was before the curse) that managed to create the perfect artificial intelligence before the shit hit the fan and implement it into powerarmors. They basically leave all the rememering to the AI, who gives them auditory and visual reminders about everything on time, but because everything is spoonfed to them everyone is a stranger with lines of text above them to tell every important info, so they tend to be on the less friendly side.
The Gaea are a gathering of former corporate magicians turned echoterrorist hippies who managed to create a magical crystal that shares memories. Basically before they go to sleep they connect with someone who takes on their memories and when they wake up they switch it back. This means they work fine among themselves, but alone they are defenseless against the curse. They have a variety of junk tech (looted from other factions), as well as gravity magics, creating earthquakes and crushing mechs with their mind.
Finally, the last one is the Cabal, a group of more shady magic users who found a demonic parasite they call the Cabal Seed. These parasites are intelligent and are immune to the curse, so when they implement one into their brains the Seed is capable of storing their memories… if it wants to. Given that they are a form of demons, they tend to be opportunistic and cruel, distorting how the host sees reality, tampering with their memories and such. But in excahnge they give memory siphoning and mind control magic to the host, wish is cool… I guess. If you’re mad.
I don’t have a story for this yet, altough I have a few character concepts. If anyone interested, hit me a reply and I'l ellaborate.
